SOLO NON-STOP CIRCUMNAVIGATION ABOARD DIDI 34 "ESTRA"
A Journey Without Borders
My name is Bohdana, I’m from Ukraine.
I’ve been sailing my whole life — from racing dinghies to long offshore passages across oceans.
In 2024, I became the first Ukrainian woman to round Cape Horn.
Now I am preparing to take Estra around the world.
A boat built for the ocean — now on its way there at last.
Estra was built by my father in Kyiv between 2005 and 2012, with a dream to sail her in the ocean one day.
For the next ten years, it became part of our family life — we traveled, raced, learned, and dreamed on it. First on the Dnipro River, later on the Black Sea. The furthest my father sailed her was to the Aegean Sea.
In 2022, we lost access to the boat. It remained on land in the south of Ukraine, too close to the frontline to return.
I left Ukraine and kept sailing elsewhere.
Over the next four years, I crossed oceans, gained offshore experience, and explored much of the world.
In 2024, at 22, I became the first Ukrainian woman to round Cape Horn.
That’s where the idea of sailing around the world became clear.
When I finally returned to Ukraine, I found Estra damaged after a missile attack.
That’s when the plan took shape: restore the boat, move it to a safe place, and finally take it to the ocean it was built for.
Estra is a 34-foot plywood offshore yacht, designed by Dudley Dix and built by my father. Simple, strong, and proven, she is getting prepared for solo ocean sailing.
THE PLAN
The route will take me around five great capes in the Southern Ocean and will last 7-9 months.
Before Estra can be prepared for the ocean, she first needs to leave Ukraine safely.
The next major step is transporting the boat by land to Romania, where she can be relaunched and continue toward Turkey for refit and preparation.
Support at this stage directly helps make that move possible.
